![]() The Fed chairman is often said to be the most powerful official the president appoints because that person directly affects each and every pocketbook in America. Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook, who served as Summers’ chief of staff when he was Treasury Secretary, and Ed Luce of the Financial Times, who used to write speeches for him and now writes pro-Summers columns in the FT are among those carrying the Summers banner. Over the last few weeks, Americans have been bombarded by a Summers-Summers-Summers drumbeat coming from the Obama administration, much of the mainstream media, and various Summers protégés. Larry Summers, the former Treasury Secretary under Clinton, and Janet Yellen, currently serving as vice chairwoman of the Fed, are the names most often mentioned for the job. ![]() ![]() Fed chair Ben Bernanke is expected to step down in January when his term ends, and the search for his successor has lately heated up. On Sunday, New York Times readers were greeted with the image of Larry Summers splashed across the front page, looking like a visionary statesman gazing thoughtfully into the distance, as if ready to seize the reins at the Federal Reserve and guide the country’s economic destiny.

Like I said Ed, 45% ytd using half my money. Plus, this is the first investment board I have found It’s very difficult to get in touch with anybody running money and I figured I would see who I could scare up here. They have just missed one important aspect. I have actually heard traders on tv say that what I am doing isn’t a system ,but it is. I spent 3 months on the computer every day in the winter of last year and after trying every combination on the lock I found it. The reason it works is because for some reason everybody in the markets has a blind spot. Obviously I’m not going to give it away as it is the only true advance I have seen in the markets in my lifetime. Well, if snake oil could make you 20% over the market that would be great, but like I said, I’m not trying to pedal it, I’m trying to find someone with real money behind them to use this system. Then you are taking advantage of something structural in the market, which is what I am doing. Ya know, Santo, that your attitude is probably the same as the others that I have tried to contact, disbelief and yet you are on a site discussing a system that can only win in one way, and that is following a trend, That’s not a system ,that’s a fantasy. If you want to make money in the market you have to do the same thing every day regardless of any indicator or the level of the market. I knew as soon as this yahoo Jim Fink mentioned indicators that his whole thing was crap, because there isn’t one indicator that means a damn thing, and if you trade off of one you will lose money, period. It seems to me that what everybody here is looking for is a way to make consistent money in the market, and so what I am talking about is very apropos to this thread. ![]() But I know I’ll be waiting a very long time. If you can find a way to do this, plus have the 20 percent safety margin this has ,you let me know right away. AND,instead of losing money I am making money, every day ,whether my balance goes up or down. Instead of being the card player ,I am the casino and instead of trading price I am trading time. And I’ll tell you why it works it’s because it does nothing like anybody else is doing, in fact mostly the opposite. I really have found something unique, and I really have no idea how to make any more use of it than trading it, which I have been doing for a year and a half now with significant money,as you can see. Honestly, this is the most genuine post you can imagine. Does anyone here have an in with someone in the business who would be willing to open his mind just a crack to find out something new? I will get rich with this, but I want to cut some time off of the schedule. ![]() It is obvious that none of them believe that they have missed something structural about the market, and I can’t tell them what it is without giving the whole thing away. I have tried to make contact with someone who is a real player, including Wisdom Tree and Kevin Oconnor and another fairly large money manager, but to no avail. It requires no learning, just rote execution of the same trade over and over. As of today I am up 120000 on the year with an account that started at 280000. ![]() ![]() What I have come up with has only one trade, which I do only on the s and p 500 and has no loss down to a 20 percent market loss. All they do is expose you to risk and decrease profit. He does have half of an idea, but you all are right, spreads are a terrible way to try to make money, either in puts or calls. I have been getting emails from this service for some reason, and after listening to the presentation I was worried that he had discovered the same system as I came up with last year. ![]() If you’re familiar with Cockpit and related Green & Slimy software, you’ll see how the developer’s stylings translates into new this new creation with futuristic & round design cues, and friendly. Want to play a scenario against the clock or as a desperate 'pop til you drop' defensive suicide mission? It's all possible. These can be relished as two (one German, one American) mini campaigns or, more interestingly, as highly configurable one-off challenges. Reason Two: EiB provides an absorbing alternative to its central story mode in the shape of ten standalone skirmish battles. ![]() This time I ran right into a pair of relocating Jerries who, in the ensuing point-blank firefight, left me staring at the sky through a veil of seeping blood. On the fourth try I positioned a covering team in a slightly different spot then advanced down a ditch that had previously been completely deserted and safe. Example? In one particularly tough story mission (Hedgerow Hell) I'd followed the same tactics three times in a row and come to grief each time. This makes for wonderfully chaotic and replayable battles. Foes may spot you creeping round behind them and make dashes for better positions. ![]() Now you regularly find yourself outflanked and out-thought. The Germans were just too static and predictable in RTH30. This was great fun up to a point, that point being the hundredth time you flanked the hundredth knot of Nazis cowering obediently behind the hundredth wall of crates. To succeed you had to 'fix' enemies with suppressing fire using one of your two controllable teams, then flank and eliminate them. Lone-wolf glory hunting and narrow assaults were usually (at the higher difficulty levels at least) ruthlessly punished. Reason One (a biggy): One of the most impressive aspects of Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30 game was the emphasis it puts on genuine squad tactics. Now for the five reasons why I think it's the finest ww2 shooter around. If contemporary shooters have a list of golden rules then somewhere very near the top must be "If you can see it then you should be able to put a slug in it." Though EiB seems slightly better than Road to Hill 30 in this respect, there are still too many occasions where you pop away for ages at exposed helmets (anyone that so much as sniggers at that remark will get an instant detention) and do no damage whatsoever. Did Gearbox's set-out to create one of the nastiest grenade hurling systems known to Man or was it just a happy accident? Pineapple-tossing is obviously more art than science but should I really have to stare at the sky and cross my fingers to hit a barn-door just across the lane. The fear of falling and never being able to get up again would certainly explain why troops are so reluctant to press their bellies into the damp protective Normandy earth. Were the American's toughest troopers really so out-of-condition in 1944 that they couldn't break-into a sprint or clamber over a low wall? Were they really so encumbered with kit that they wouldn't lean round corners just in case the weight of grenades hanging from their webbing caused them to topple over and flounder on the ground like upturned beetles. (and this is connected to number one) What in God's name do the good people of north-west France manufacture their doors from? It has to be some-kind of bullet-proof, boot-proof miracle timber why else would soldiers on both sides insist on doing 98 per cent of their fighting in the open air. Anyone getting their WW2 education primarily from this game would think that the German army's sole preparation for D-Day was to commandeer every single crate, barrel and oil drum in Western Europe, ship them to Normandy, then arrange them in neat barriers every twenty metres or so. In a step that risks setting back the cause of progressive games reviewing several years here are five things that I loathe about Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood. GanttProject - Free Open Source Project Management Tool That's a great feature, and although it's difficult to get out of the habit of heading straight for regular audio or instrument tracks, they can be switched to Hybrid mode at any time, so there's no need to plan ahead. And stretchīitwig's audio clips are, by and large, similar to Live's, being automatically warped to fit the project tempo and retimed via 'elastic'-style warp markers. The main benefit of Hybrid tracks is the ability to bounce instrument clips to audio in place and edit that audio while leaving the rest of the track as programmed notes. Unusually, Bitwig Studio offers four track types: Audio, Instrument, Effect (send/return tracks) and Hybrid, which can host audio and instrument clips at the same time. Once you're used to it, it always feels like you've got ready access to, well, everything. There's a ton of other options for hiding and revealing UI elements, too, making Bitwig's interface feel far more customisable than Live's. To the left is the Inspector window (which can also be folded into the Browser's tabbed space for small-monitor setups), offering access to a host of clip parameters, while the bottom panel, as with Live, hosts each track's device chain and clip editor - which can be expanded to fill the whole window - as well as a mixer. The metadata-based browser to the right provides access to instruments, effects and files, although it occasionally takes a long time to preview and load one-shot samples (we expect this issue will be resolved before too long, though, and indeed, Bitwig was very quick to fix the few other minor issues we came across). While - commendably - Ableton has always stuck to its guns in keeping Live clutter-free at the expense of making certain functions harder to get at than they perhaps could be, Bitwig is happy to let the interface get a little busier.Ĭonceptually, Bitwig Studio may centre on a dual-view setup like Live - the Arrange and Mix windows - but it breaks out of this paradigm by introducing various sub-windows, pop-ups and, of course, that Arrange view Clip Launcher. In fact, Bitwig's GUI in general feels slightly more user-friendly than Live's. Still, for one-monitor musos, Bitwig's Clip Launcher trumps Live's comparatively clunky two-window solution. Bitwig also supports up to three monitors, enabling even more expansive use of both views - although since Live finally introduced dual monitor support in version 9.1, this isn't quite the talking point it would have been a few months ago. While it might seem trivial at first glance, arguably Bitwig's biggest innovation is its ability to display the Mix view's Clip Launcher and Arranger side-by-side in one window, making it possible to lay out the arrangement of a track in a traditional, linear manner and experiment with clips at the same time, with the ability to drag clips between the two and keep a constant eye on what's going on in both views.įor those working on a single monitor, this is a fantastic workflow improvement over Live 9.1's two separate windows. Sure, the two have enough similarities, both obvious and subtle, that we could fill this entire review discussing them, but to do so would be to miss the point that Bitwig is packed with plenty of its own well-thought-out features. But the similarities run deeper than just that.Ĭrucially, however, Bitwig Studio doesn't just feel like it's aping Live for the sake of it. So just how close are the two applications? The most prominent similarity lies in the fact that Bitwig is based on a dual-window interface, featuring Mix/Clip Launcher and Arrange views cut from the same stylistic cloth as Live's Session and Arrangement views - one for on-the-fly clip launching the other for traditional linear arranging. As such, any application aiming to encroach on Live's turf is understandably going to cause a stir. Until now, Ableton's DAW, with its non-linear, clip-focussed workflow, has largely existed in its own space, somewhat removed from the rest of the market. Then there's Bitwig's eyebrow-raising visible similarity to Live. "Crucially, Bitwig Studio doesn't just feel like it's aping Live for the sake of it." Is it a Live? ![]() ![]() Subsequently, throughout the extended beta cycle that followed, we've been drip-fed details via official previews and word-of-mouth hype. ![]() It was first brought to our attention over two years ago, billed as a brand new DAW under development by a team including several former Ableton developers, and offering a complete production package for creating tracks in any style, albeit with an emphasis on electronic genres. ![]() The download file has a size of 35.5MB.Īimersoft Video Converter Ultimate(Build has not been rated by our users yet. The Mantineians may have adopted the trident of Posidon by the mid 5th century as there is a refrence in Bacchylides to it. It is widely assumed that Sparta was the first state to introduce uniform shield patterns, but the evidence does not bear this out. One philospher's was covered with quotes, another man's had the device of an anchor to demonstate his determination not to retreat. While such state badges seem to have become more common as time went on - the Macedonian Hellenistic states seemed to have regular shield patterns, many states continued with allowing their men to chose whatever badge they desired. He also mentions men from Sicyon carrying the letter sigma as a badge, and the Thebans, as well as their allies, using a club, although the Thebans had used individual shield designs only a few years previously as shown by Plutarch: the man who killed Lysander had a dragon as his emblem. Such shields are attested by Xenophon in the early 4th century BC. However, they changed this personal-preference policy into one of state control, whereby each man carried the same badge - in this case the letter lambda (for Lakedaimon, another name for Sparta). Accused of cowardice (his enemies wouldn't be able to recognise him) he responds that the fly would be the size of a lion when he bore down on his enemy in battle. ![]() There is an anecdote which talks of a Spartan who had a life-sized fly for his emblem. This was true even of the Spartans, at least initially. Generally, each hoplite chose his own shield design. The word hoplon did not actually come to mean the peculiar shield associated with hoplites until the end of the 5th century, and even then it was still more often referred to by the more generic name "aspis". I use "Greek" in a wide sense including Greek-influenced Italian states such as Campania, from where most late 4th century depictions of hoplons come from. Most of the shields shown here are "hoplons", a few are peltas or similar, there are also a few parablemata (shield aprons) unless noted all are carried by warriors on foot rather than mounted. There are 200-odd patterns here at the moment, and more get added slowly as and when I get the time, but it's a slow job. These shield patterns have been garnered mostly from books on vases and other items of pottery in museums around the world. This collection is mainly intended to help wargamers painting their Greek armies. This page last modified: October 17, 2000 |
